If you don't know what SEO is you need an Internet Marketing consultant? In fact, I think that many so called webmasters need an Internet Marketing consultant.
Especially when you take a cross section of local business websites e.g. the plumber or dentist in your town, it is shocking to see how many of these sites are up there without a clue of what SEO is and why they might as well not have the website without it.
In a nut shell SEO is the system you use in presenting your website to the search engines. Now nobody exactly know what Google and other search engines are looking for when crawling the web but any Internet Marketing consultant in the know has a pretty good idea what's important.
Just imagine yourself searching for something online, what do you write into the search box? Now take this thought and apply it to your own website, these words and search terms are what you need to use in your SEO (search engine optimization) not some fancy industry term that nobody outside of your industry knows.
One of the most important factors that Google wants on a website is original content, your own writing and information; this is why blogs does so well in the search engines. Further you will get better rankings if you target you page content around a keyword or search term that people are actually looking for.
Don't worry too much about pretty pictures and graphics, the search engines don't give it much weight and although your site needs to look good, it's the content and how you present it that makes the difference.
This is the 1st in what true SEO is, a website with relevant unique content focused around relevant search terms for your industry, then you need to place these keywords in a certain way on your page but that's a topic for another article.
